Work ActivitiesThere are nine major “WORK AREAS” in the Fellowship. Within the nine work areas there is a diversity of activities far too extensive to detail here. What is so important for those involved with the community is that many individuals, of all ages and capacities, can be busy in worthwhile and productive activities. Different levels of ability and skill are needed and can be used. The result is that there is something worthwhile for everyone to do. “Make work” is not needed in this community. Some who are busy in the community are involved in more than one work area. For example, the print shop, where there is preparation of printed materials, computer type setting, printing, collating, binding, checking, boxing for storage, shipping and book keeping. For the most part nine work areas are identified:
Except for the very old and ill and the very young, nearly everyone in the community is busy for longer or shorter times in the work areas just listed. It can be noted that a tremendous amount of social interchange takes place in these areas, there is much learning and growing always in process. Thirty-five per cent of the income for the community comes from these important and essential works. This income makes the community not solely dependent upon the older individual for revenue. By the same token this income helps that those who are economically vulnerable with low incomes can be members of the community. |
