THE FELLOWSHIP IN BRIEF
For thirty-three years the FELLOWSHIP COMMUNITY has pioneered as an intentional, work-based, inter-generational, long-term care social service community. The Community numbers 140 souls of all ages with an additional 60 volunteers. Though all ages are cared for, and care extends beyond the community, the emphasis is on the care of the older person. In addition to the human being, care in this setting includes the environment, and the lands, as well as the social circumstance. There is a continued emphasis on care, productive work, and personal growth for the welfare of the whole. The Rudolf Steiner Fellowship Foundation is the legally responsible agent for the work of the community. The trustees of this Foundation share administrative responsibilities with those who live in the community for the sake of broad-based participatory involvement. This social service care community is licensed by the Department of Health of New York State. Special legislation by the State Legislature was passed on three occasions to permit as much freedom and creativity in human care as is possible. The Community is located in Chestnut Ridge, in Rockland County, thirty miles north of New York City. The setting is semi-rural within a surrounding suburban environment. The Fellowship Community, though independent legally, is part of the overall work of the Threefold Community. The other adjacent institutions of this community are; Eurythmy Spring Valley, The Pfeiffer Center, Green Meadow Waldorf School, The Hungry Hollow Coop, Sunbridge College, Threefold Educational Foundation, and the Weleda Apothecary.
